I love how Don Williams and Brenton Brown in their article “Who is the God We Worship”, state “ The biggest mystery is not the Trinity, but that God chooses to reveal Himself to us at all! Why Trinity? Central and unique to the Christian faith is the belief that the one God has disclosed Himself eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As a result Christians are monotheists, but “complex” monotheists. There is a plurality within the identity of the one God. The Word of God and the Spirit of God are a part of who God is. They also function in His creating and ruling the world. “
When I think of what I have referenced above I feel so loved and cared for by Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I am reminded once again that even in the mystery and complexity of the Godhead, there is order in creation and in the world—heaven and earth. I can so rest in that. In the statement “They also function in His creating and ruling the world.” I stand in awe of what I see and sense, here and now; yet I don’t see it all–yet what I see, I love. As I sit in my kitchen and see the wind blowing through the leaves and the sunshine glaring, the beautiful colours, the dogs barking in my house and outside, I know my God made this and it is good (Genesis). As I ponder how he said in Genesis —that we are created in His own image (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) and all that He made he called very good—(see verses below from the NIV bible—Genesis 1:26-31)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
That the Godhead worked closely together in harmony and perfect unity in creating us—that we are created in His image—now that is a reality to bring me to a place of reflection—that I/we are created in the image of the Godhead. What kind of love prompted that? What kind of heart thought of that? I am blown away once again as I think about these scriptures. We get to participate in his rule and reign. We are entrusted with a lot…he loves us that much!! At times the thought of that is so scary yet He said that He will complete the work he began in me (Philippians 1:6) so that takes off the pressure for me at least. He commanded us to do it– to rule and reign with Him. This makes me think of Dan Wilt’s video/article on the The Nature of God wherein he references the Hebrew language being a verb-based one. God ever moving, ever being, ever creating, ever loving and showing himself—always with purpose to reveal the Godhead/who He/They is/are and who we are in Him/Them. I ponder what were they thinking when they created…I think about when I create, when I do what I love to do and because I am made in His wonderful, mysterious image He/they must have placed these passions in me…to create. I have fun when I just play with nothing to do and something to do while using my God given imagination…as I write this blog, when I sing, when I speak another language, when I share with my friend/s and they with me, when I stand in awe of His creation and revel in the beauty there or in a painting or on the smile of a person he created or the tears one sheds, and when I ask my questions. He is right here with me/us. Was there a symphony/an orchestra going when each of us was created? What kind of thought went into the colour of my hair/your hair, etc.? What was the thought process as He/they created each one of us? Who came up with what since each has their role and purpose? I see as I read the scriptures regarding creation that he was very intentional in all of this…as He created each thing, especially we, the created ones that He/They created in their image (the Godhead). (Psalm 104:30) “When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.”
What kind of playfulness and excitement was going on and goes on that we don’t yet fully see?
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV) 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
Lots to ponder…makes me fall in love more in more with Father, Son and Holy Spirit and with those created in His image…makes me hunger to know him more and to be known by Him.
